WALTHAM SINGERS VISIT TO WEILBURG - MAY 2008

The Waltham Singers travelled to the historic town of Weilburg where they rehearsed and performed with their hosts die Kantorei der Schlosskirche. The joint choirs performed Elgar's "The Music Makers" and Mendelssohn's "Psalm 95" in the magnificent baroque Castle Church. The choirs were accompanied by the Sudwestfalische Philharmonie. The Elgar was directed by the German choir's conductor, Doris Hagel, and Andrew Fardell directed the Mendelssohn. Both works gave choir and orchestra the opportunity to display the full range of their talents. The alto part in the Elgar was sung by powerful counter-tenor Ralph Mangelsdorff, and the tenor soloist in the Mendelssohn was Heiko Borner. The soprano duet in the Mendelssohn was sung by Doris Hagel and Dorothee Zimmermann from the Weilburg choir. The large audience showed their appreciation for a concert of intensity and passion.
When they were not rehearsing or performing the Singers were able to enjoy some of the delights of this charming area.
To all singers who went on the trip - I need more photos. Send me your best three and I will put them into this album

We visited the Hessenpark where many old buildings from the area have been rebuilt using the original materials.
